February Studio Notes:
Education, Growth & Trying Something New
Winter has a way of asking us to slow down.
The pace shifts, the noise quiets, and suddenly there’s space to reflect. At Pilates by Tammie, winter isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing things with intention. This season invites us to create new habits, explore something unfamiliar, and lay the groundwork for lasting change.
February is shaping up to be a month rooted in education, growth, and meaningful expansion —
both inside and beyond the studio.
Returning to the Foundations: A Commitment to Education
This past weekend, I completed Mat 2 as part of my comprehensive certification journey through Balanced Body.
While I completed both my Mat and Reformer training locally, that coursework is not recognized by Balanced Body toward comprehensive certification. Rather than cutting corners, I’ve intentionally chosen to go back and re-complete required modules so that my certification reflects their standards fully and with integrity.
That includes revisiting foundational work such as:
- Movement Principles
- Mat 2
- Mat 3
Going back to the fundamentals is never a step backward. It refines how I see movement, how I cue, and how I support each body in the room. This commitment directly strengthens the quality of instruction offered in the studio — because strong teaching always begins with a strong foundation.
Why Balanced Body Education?
Balanced Body is widely recognized as the gold standard of Pilates education worldwide, having set the benchmark for teacher training for more than 20 years. Even more impressively, the company itself has been in business for nearly 50 years, helping shape how Pilates is taught, understood, and evolved across the globe.
This October, Balanced Body will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in Sacramento, and I’ll be attending — a meaningful milestone as I continue my own education within their system.
Their curriculum is known for its depth, consistency, and respect for the original Pilates method while integrating modern movement science. The emphasis on anatomy, biomechanics, and movement principles aligns deeply with how I teach and how I believe bodies learn best.
Choosing this path isn’t about checking a box — it’s about holding this studio to the highest educational standard.
Investing in Our Teaching Team
Education doesn’t stop with me.
Next weekend, a couple of our newer instructors will be completing Reformer 2, continuing to deepen their understanding of the Pilates system. Supporting ongoing teacher education is part of what defines this studio as boutique — a place where learning is valued and instruction continues to evolve.
When instructors grow, the entire community benefits.
A Deeper Look at the Konnector
The Konnector Reformer is one of the defining elements of this studio. Unlike traditional reformer work, the Konnector links all four limbs through a single rope system, creating full-body integration and continuous feedback.
Instead of isolating muscles, the Konnector teaches the body to move as a connected whole, challenging coordination, stability, and awareness in real time.
You’ll experience movement patterns such as:
- Together – all limbs move simultaneously, building symmetry and coordination
- Single – one limb maintains dynamic isometric engagement while another moves through space
- Alternating – opposite limbs move while the system stays connected
- Reciprocal – limbs begin in opposing positions, mirroring natural gait and functional movement
Within reciprocal work:
- Reciprocal Hover keeps the carriage still, demanding deep stabilization
- Reciprocal Functional allows subtle carriage movement as limbs move into a stretch phase
This work often feels challenging in a quieter, more focused way — because the nervous system is just as involved as the muscles.
Bringing the Konnector to Wilmington
On February 6, I’ll be traveling to Wilmington to introduce the Konnector to an entirely new community at Bella Forma Pilates a new studio, opening in March.
This is a significant moment for the Wilmington area. Many instructors and clients there have never experienced the Konnector system, and introducing it means bringing a completely new way of understanding movement, connection, and full-body integration to a large, previously untapped region.
Expanding the reach of the Konnector beyond our beach-town studio supports the evolution of intelligent, functional Pilates — and it’s an honor to be part of that introduction.
Looking Ahead: Konnector Training This March
This spring, we’re excited to welcome Viktor Uygan, the inventor of the Konnector, who will be traveling to our studio in March to train our instructors directly.
Learning from the source reinforces our commitment to offering thoughtful, high-level instruction — and ensures our teachers are trained with clarity, precision, and intention.

Why Winter Is the Perfect Time to Try Something New
Winter naturally encourages reflection. It slows us down and invites us to listen more closely — to our bodies, our habits, and what we truly need.
That’s what makes this season the perfect time to:
- Try a new movement practice
- Build sustainable habits
- Invest in yourself
- Move with greater intention
You don’t need to wait for spring to begin. Why not let this be the season you try something new?
Thank you for being part of this community. We look forward to continuing to move, learn, and grow together.
