Balanced Body Education Sets the Standard in Pilates

At Pilates by Tammie, education is not an add-on — it is the foundation of everything we do.

The way a class feels, the clarity of a cue, the safety of a progression, and the confidence a client builds in their body all begin with the education behind the instructor teaching the room. That’s why I’ve chosen to align this studio with Balanced Body, and why ongoing education is something I prioritize so deeply — both for myself and for every instructor who teaches here.

Why Balanced Body?

Balanced Body is widely recognized as the most respected Pilates education organization in the world, having set the standard for teacher training for more than 20 years. Even beyond education, the company itself has been shaping the Pilates industry for nearly 50 years, influencing how Pilates is taught, practiced, and evolved globally.

What makes Balanced Body different is not just longevity — it’s consistency, depth, and integrity. Their curriculum honors the original Pilates method while integrating modern movement science, biomechanics, and anatomy in a way that is practical, intelligent, and applicable to real bodies.

This October, Balanced Body will celebrate their 50th anniversary in Sacramento, and I’ll be attending — something that feels especially meaningful as I continue my own education within their system.

Why I Chose to Revisit My Education

Earlier in my Pilates journey, I completed both Mat and Reformer training locally. While that education was valuable, it is not recognized by Balanced Body toward comprehensive certification.

Rather than viewing that as a limitation, I saw it as an opportunity.

Becoming comprehensively certified through Balanced Body means intentionally revisiting and completing foundational modules — including Movement Principles, Mat 2, and Mat 3 — to ensure that my education aligns fully with their standards. There are no shortcuts in this process, and that is exactly why it matters.

Going back to the fundamentals sharpens how I see movement. It refines my cueing, deepens my understanding of biomechanics, and strengthens how I support each body that walks into the studio.

Great teaching isn’t about how advanced an exercise looks — it’s about how well it’s taught.

Why Education Matters in This Studio

Pilates is often misunderstood as a series of exercises. In reality, it is a method, grounded in principles that guide how the body moves, organizes, and adapts over time.

Balanced Body places a strong emphasis on:

  1. Movement principles
  2. Efficient biomechanics
  3. Thoughtful progressions
  4. Understanding why the body moves the way it does

This approach directly impacts the client experience.

When instructors are well educated, clients benefit from:

  1. Clearer cueing
  2. Safer, more effective progressions
  3. A deeper understanding of their own movement
  4. Sustainable strength and mobility that supports real life

This is why education isn’t just personal for me — it’s central to the quality of instruction offered at Pilates by Tammie.

Why I Prioritize Instructor Education

As this studio has grown, so has my responsibility as an educator and mentor.

I believe it is my role not only to teach clients, but also to support and guide the instructors who teach here. That means encouraging continued education, supporting advanced modules, and creating an environment where learning is valued — not rushed.

Several of our instructors are currently completing additional Balanced Body modules, and that commitment to education is intentional. When instructors deepen their understanding, the entire studio elevates.

This focus ensures that no matter who is teaching your class, you are receiving instruction that is grounded, thoughtful, and aligned with the Pilates method.

My Love for Teaching and the Balanced Body Community

At the heart of all of this is my love for teaching.

I genuinely love learning, refining, and sharing movement — and Balanced Body has created a continuing education community that supports that passion. Their educator network, workshops, and ongoing dialogue foster curiosity rather than hierarchy, and growth rather than perfection.

Education doesn’t end with certification. It evolves as bodies change, research advances, and instructors continue to grow.

Being part of the Balanced Body community means staying connected to that evolution — and bringing it back into the studio in a way that benefits clients first.

What This Means for You

For clients, all of this simply means better Pilates.

It means classes that are:

  1. Thoughtfully programmed
  2. Clearly cued
  3. Adaptable to different bodies
  4. Rooted in education, not trends

Whether you are brand new to Pilates or deepening a long-standing practice, you can trust that the instruction here is grounded in a system that values integrity, intelligence, and continued growth.

Thoughtful movement. Continued learning. We’re glad you’re here.
